Ingredients and amounts:
-
1, 9-inch frozen pie crust with pan
-
5 medium sized apples (I personally like Gala or Red Delicious Apples)
-
3 tablespoons of lemon juice
-
1/2 cup of sugar
-
1 cup of brown sugar
-
1 1/4 cup of all-purpose flour
-
1/4 teaspoon of nutmeg
-
1 teaspoon and 1/2 tablespoon of cinnamon
-
1/2 cup of softened butter
Cooking Instructions:
Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.
In a medium bowl, mix together 1 cup of flour, 1/2 cup of brown sugar, 1/2 tablespoon cinnamon and 1/2 cup of softened butter until the mixture becomes coarse and granular. Set the streusel crumbs aside.
For the apple filling mixture, core, peel and slice the apples. Use an apple corer for faster results. Put all of the apples and lemon juice in a large bowl and mix well. Mix in 1/4 teaspoon of nutmeg, 1 teaspoon of cinnamon, the remaining 1/4 cup of flour and 1/2 cup of brown sugar. Mix together well.
Transfer the apple filling mixture to the pie pan. Then sprinkle the streusel crumbs over the top of the apple filling.
Bake the dutch apple pie in an oven for 40 minutes, approximately when the streusel crumbs are browned and the pie is bubbly.
Cool on a cooling rack for at least 30-45 minutes.
(Optional) Serve with ice cream, whipped cream or caramel sauce.
